
Abebe Menkir biography
Abebe Menkir is a maize breeder at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Nigeria. His research focuses on breeding for high yield potential, resistance to diseases and Striga, drought tolerance, enhanced nutritional quality, and resistance to mycotoxin contamination. Before joining to IITA in 1996, he worked at Alemaya College of Agriculture and the Institute of Agriculture Research in Ethiopia.
Menkir received his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Kansas State University.
