Ellen McCullough biography

Ellen McCullough is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia. Her research interests center on understanding development phenomena at large scales, especially the major pathways that link agricultural growth and poverty reduction. She focuses on large scale structural change processes in African economies and is particularly interested in how labor shifts out of agriculture as economies develop.

Previously, McCullough worked as a program officer in Agricultural Development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, managing a portfolio of grants supporting improved agricultural policy and data quality in developing countries, and before that, as an economist at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.

She  received her PhD in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University.
