Maricelis Acevedo biography

Acevedo is Associate Director of the Delivering Genetic Gain in Wheat Project of the International Program-College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University.

She works with various agricultural scientists around the world to develop and deliver high yielding and disease resistant wheat varieties. While working as a post-doc fellow at the USDA, she identified genomic regions associated with resistance to crown rust of oats and discovered new sources of resistance to the highly infectious wheat stem rust pathogen.

Previously, she was an Assistant Professor in the Plant Pathology Department of North Dakota State University. She was a winner of 2010 Jeanie Laube Borlaug Women in Triticum Early Career Award.

She did her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and MSc in Crop Improvement from the University of Puerto Rico.
