Steve Staal biography

Steven Staal is an agricultural economist currently working with the International Livestock Research Institute as a Regional Representative for East and Southeast Asia. He leads the Policy Trade and Value Chains team and has more than 20 years of research experience in smallholder agriculture in Asia and Africa.

Staal focuses his research on smallholder producer competitiveness, policies in input and output markets serving livestock producers, economic efficiency and public health in informal dairy markets, consumer demand for dairy products, evaluation of technology interventions on smallholder farms, and spatial analysis of the intensification of smallholder livestock systems. He received his Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of Florida.
