Xiuli Xu biography

Xiuli Xu is Professor of Humanities and Development Studies at China Agricultural University and Deputy Dean of the China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture /Belt and Road Institute for Agricultural Cooperation.

Her research focuses on development issues, particularly China’s overseas investment and foreign aid in African and Asian countries, the evolution of development thinking, and developmental state building in African countries. She is the lead author of a series of articles on the nature and daily operation of China’s aid and overseas investment published in World Development, Development and Change,and IDS Bulletin.

Xu is a key member of the China International Development Research Network, and the Network of Southern Think Tanks (NeST). She is a peer reviewer om the Journal of Current Chinese Affairsand the Journal of Environment and Development.

She holds a Ph.D. in development studies from China Agricultural University, and is a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge.
